Translation Exercise Research Tool
Below are three versions of the exercise. The first version is just the text, the second offers audio translations of target words, and the third offers a textual translation of the target words.
The two versions with translations available count the times users click the links on the page using JavaScript. When the user clicks the button at the end, the counts are written to a .csv file on the server using PHP. The current version assumes users complete the activity in one sitting (and do not refresh the page).
Currently, to avoid the collection of identifiable data, the form asks for a quiz code that can be supplied to students during the activity. Only the researcher will have access to the combination of student information, quiz numbers, and the click counts
Future updates may include:
- Additional styling and navigation
- Instructions or a link for accessing the next activity
- a sign on to avoid data loss due to page refresh.
- Packaging as a Moodle Plugin so that it can be housed on a University Server
If the activity is deamed a valuable research tool, I have been documenting the development process so that the activity can be repeated with other text. Eventually, the documentation could be used to develop an application that creates the neccessary files without the need for a developer.
